As per ANL’s advisory, this ship will be calling here to avoid significant delays elsewhere.
Northport are in the process of implementing a Terminal Operating System and some other improvements, however prior to these becoming fully operational, we do not yet have all the systems and infrastructure of some container terminals. Therefore, this document is to assist all stakeholders in understanding the dates, systems and procedures to be followed. This note will be updated as more information becomes available and as the operation progresses. Frequently asked questions (FAQs) have been sent out with this advisory and are here: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Based on experience, we will be able to dispatch all containers within approximately 10 working days if trucks are available and everyone follows the rules i.e.: do not book a truck until the container(s) is fully cleared on the Northport website, ensure the truck then arrives for this slot and do not contact our team asking for information already available on our website or in this guide.
The ship will be berthing at Northport early tomorrow morning, Wednesday 2nd March and is expected to depart on Saturday 5th March. There are 1410 containers to be discharged (2101 TEU equivalent), including 52 reefers, 21 Out-Of-Gauge (OOG) and 56 Dangerous Goods (DGs) containers, plus a number of discharge, land and restow (DLR) movements.
Dispatch of containers is planned to commence from Monday 7th March with operational hours of 0600-1800hrs Monday to Friday.
Non-DGs: Without setting a precedent but to demonstrate Northport’s commitment to making this ship call as cost effective as possible, the storage rates are as follows:
Reefers: As above, plus there is a daily charge for power from when it is first plugged in i.e.: on discharge from ship. This includes two temperature checks per day.
DGs: DG storage charge applies from first day of container dispatch at $15 per TEU, $30 per FEU per day.
Priority will be given to removing DGs from the port as quickly as possible and Northport Holds will not apply to DG containers once discharged. Trucking companies are requested to follow the normal booking process but email containers@northport.co.nz if they cannot obtain a booking within 3 days and Northport will assist.
All rates are in NZ$, exclude GST and are charged to the shipping line.
Container detention/demurrage charges should be discussed with the shipping line.
Kiwirail may have some capacity for containers moving to Auckland. They cannot take OOG or reefers. Organisations interested in this option should contact Kiwirail directly via the KiwiRail service centre on 0800 351 351 or imex@kiwirail.co.nz
Northport receives updates from the Trade Single Window (TSW) system relating to MPI Food, MPI Biosecurity and NZ Customs clearances. We also receive line clearances from the four shipping lines.
Please ensure that any TSW entries state the port of discharge as Marsden Point (NZMAP) not Auckland (NZAKL). NZWRE is also an acceptable port code. There is no need to send individual clearances by email; please use the TSW system.
For any ‘Customs bonded’ containers covered under CCA to CCA transfer paperwork and for which TSW entries are not required, please send the ‘Collectors Permit’ to containers@northport.co.nz
Information including container numbers and hold/cleared status is available to view, interrogate and download via this link: https://northport.co.nz/container-select. This is not ‘live’ but will be updated routinely throughout the day. There are already several hundred MPI, Customs and Line clearances in place – thank you, please keep them coming.
Our truck booking system is available here: https://northport.co.nz/truckbookings
The system requires specific container number(s) and for ALL releases to be cleared before a booking can be made. All containers initially have a Northport hold so trucks cannot be booked yet, but we will be updating the system as we discharge the ship hence the first fully cleared containers will be available to book from Thursday morning.
Drivers will be required to present their booking information for the container(s) to the Northport container administration office. Please also ensure your truck drivers check they have the correct container(s) before departing.
A Northport access map will be provided during a subsequent update.
A dedicated email address is in use for communications between Northport, freight forwarders and trucking companies on any matter relating to this ship. Please use this rather than individual email addresses. This is containers@northport.co.nz
Drivers must complete a Northport site induction prior to arrival at Northport, https://northport.co.nz/induction/
Swipe access card is strongly advised for any drivers planning multiple trips to the site.
Please see https://northport.co.nz/portaccess for all information regarding port access
Our COVID protocols are given in Appendix 1.
