As part of our continued commitment to working with the community, Northport is a member of both the Ruakaka Economic Development Group and Community Liaison Group (CLG). These groups ensure that Northport maintains a positive impact on the community and the environment.
Northport is also in close liaison with the Patuharakeke Te Iwi Trust Board and sponsors a scholarship each year.
Find out more about these groups and Northport's involvement:
Patuharakeke Te Iwi Trust Board Incorporated Society (PTB) represents Patuharakeke Hapū, Tangata Whenua o Te Rohe o Patuharakeke with regards to Resource Management issues. Located on the south side of Te Rerenga Parāoa (Whangarei Harbour) our rohe stretches on the seaward side, including foreshore and seabed, from a point at the north of Mangawhai Heads to the entrance of the Mangapai River just south of Whangarei.

CLG is Northport’s liaison group with the community. This group was setup as a condition of Northport’s consents, through the Resource Management Act 1991 during construction of berths 2 and 3. However Northport decided on completion of the berths, that this group was an important medium to the community and that it should remain in place.
This group is made up of representatives from the following groups:
In January 2006, the Ruakaka residents and ratepayers association called a meeting with the aim of bringing major industry leaders, developers and community representatives together, to ensure Ruakaka and its growth gained a mutual understanding by all as to the infrastructure and amenity requirements of the district as opposed to ad hoc development.
The Ruakaka Community Partnership was subsequently formed and for three years many valuable and successful discussions took place such as the One Tree Point Foreshore Protection, Wastewater Disposal, and the Rail Corridor. The Ruakaka Economic Development Group was subsequently formed and took over this role.
Northport has representation on both the REDG Steering Group and Committee.
